 Admin Lockdown Browser unlock password

thistestisover

When you click on Lockdown Browser (left menu) in Schoology, there are video tutorials for getting started with Lockdown Browser. PLEASE review the Tips provided below as this will help to prevent repeating problems teachers have experienced the last few days. Additionally here is link to what Chris McCoy shared in the meeting, https://go.brrice.edu/3bCEhro.

The really quick instructions, more to come… (We still recommend watching tutorials):

  1. Create your quiz in Schoology. Do NOT have anyone take the quiz before setting Lockdown Browser settings.

  2. Click on Lockdown Browser on left side menu of Schoology

  3. Click dropdown on left side of quiz you want to lockdown

  4. Click Require Lockdown Browser

  5. Select Advanced Settings

  6. Select “Allow students to take this exam with an iPad”

  7. Do NOT select “Lock students into browser until exam completed” (see Tips below for explanation)

  8. Click Save and Close

The Lockdown Browser has been installed on all Student iPads. Students click on the quiz in Schoology and they will be locked in. If the student exits the “lockdown”, they will need to provide an explanation of why they exited. That information is available to you.

Below are tips for using the Lockdown Browser in Schoology. We currently do NOT have the “Monitoring” functionality in Lockdown Browser, so in a remote environment, nothing prevents the student from using two devices, minimizing the effectiveness of the Lockdown Browser.

Tips

  1. Select the setting “Allow students to take this exam with an iPad.”

  2. Do NOT select “Lock students into browser until exam completed” if the quiz/test will be taken remotely. Locking into a browser is not recommended because if their connection fails, they are locked in and cannot get out. If they exit the browser anytime during the exam, they have to provide an explanation why, so you can monitor that way.

  3. If you chose to “Lock students into browser until exam completed” anyway, make sure you set an unlock password.

  4. The Lockdown Browser settings need to be set for the test/quiz in EACH of your sections individually, even if your sections are linked in Schoology.

  5. The test/quiz cannot be previously taken by anyone prior to setting up the test/quiz with the Lockdown Browser. If the test has previously been taken, the students get an error message, “Could not retrieve exam settings. Please ask your instructor to verify the exam settings on the Lockdown Browser dashboard.” A new test/quiz must be created prior to setting it up to be used with the Lockdown Browser. To reuse an existing test/quiz, make a new test/quiz by copying it into Resources, and then copying it back to your course.

  6. Students access the test/quiz in your Schoology course. They do not click on the Lockdown Browser app.

  7. Tutorials for the Lockdown Browser are available from within Schoology when you click on Lockdown Browser.
